Rifling Thru Your Data at Google

A (now former) employee at Google was fired for reportedly spying on user emails and chats. The employee, a member of a trusted group of troubleshooting engineers, was able to spy on Google call logs, chat transcripts and contact lists. He used the information to contact, and eventually harass, a teen aged user of the company's services.
The company says this is just one of two incidents. Given the number of employees, that's hard to imagine. The Goog did not report the incident to police, but instead, handled it as an internal matter.
The government would need a warrant to get the information that passes through the goog's hands on a regular basis. Imagine the deep, penetrating search they'd do if you applied for a job at the Goog. And still, they trusted this guy with all that personal data.
